Description:
Combining the patterns and traditions of the existing city with modern sustainable urban design concepts, the Karachi Port Trust Master Plan master plan creates a landmark skyline from the sea that will become the pride of Karachi.

The Karachi Port Trust Master Plan will enhance popular Clifton Beach through the creation of a 250-acre mixed-use development. This includes the Karachi Port Trust Tower that, at a height of 1,947 feet, symbolizes the date of Pakistan's independence.

The master plan has been developed based upon five distinct design principles: a new arcing landform, a beautiful city park, three contrasting districts, a diverse urban grid, and an ecological framework.

A dramatic arc creates a new landform that respects the existing land and sea currents while embracing the nearby Oyster Rocks. The sweeping form allows for a variety of density within the development; a smaller scale grid at the western end suitable for academic uses widens to a large scale grid at the eastern end whose scale supports the location of the Tower as it pushes out into the sea.

Superimposed onto the grid are three landmark districts: the Tower, the Mosque and the College/Hospital. The three landmarks are placed to create a dialogue across the new plan, each responding differently to the constraints of the grid. The Mosque breaks the grid geometry, while the Tower stretches the larger blocks, and the college/hospital campus nestles within the narrow streets to the west. These landmarks form the center of activity in each of the corresponding districts.

The overall program area for the Tower iincludes 2,000,000 square feet of office and 700,000 square feet of hotel and 600,000 square feet of retail. In addition, the program calls for 350,000 square feet of exhibition space, a 1,500-seat auditorium and an observation deck at the top of the tower.

Information
- 250 acre mixed use development master plan
- Three landmark districts: Tower, Mosque and College/Hospital
- Beachfront promenade connecting to a large park made up of restored mangroves

I believe 1476 ft. was the previous height. According to the following presentation (click the link), by Chairman Karachi Port Trust, its 1947 ft.

Wikipedia is not a very reliable source as everyone has access to its data, as far as I know KPT is still looking for an investor.

KARACHI: President General Pervez Musharraf has announced to build world's tallest building on Karachi-connected island while the mega project of northern by-pass will be inaugurated next month.

Addressing the inaugural ceremony of Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim constructed on 130 acres, he praised Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ebad for taking personal interest in completing the project.

Among others Sindh Governor Isratul Ebad, Sindh CM Arbab Rahim, CIty Nazim Mustafa Kamal, and provincial ministers were also present. Musharraf added that Ebad along Rahim and Kamal has turned Karachi city into parks city.

He annonced to support K-4 project designed to provide 100 million gallons of additional water for Karachi while provision of drinking water will be made sure, saying new projects to resolve issues pertaining to electricity, traffic, and cleanliness are in pipeline.

He asked environmentalists not to criticise the development projects, saying trees will be choped and sea-life disturbed since it is inevitable as consequence of such projects. He assured that new trees in double quantity will be planted later.

He announced to donate Rs2 million for labourers involved in constructing the Bagh-e-Ibn-e-Qasim, saying that 70 thousand plots were sold to poor people in Malir Development scheme and Taiser Town on low prices.

Thanking President Musharraf for taking personal interest in all Karachi projects, Ebad announced to build a resort on 800 acres near Manghopir and picnic spots alongside Malir canal.

Karachi to get one of world’s tallest towers

KARACHI, Feb 27: President Pervez Musharraf has said that one of the tallest buildings of the world is planned to be constructed in Karachi.
He was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of Bagh Ibne Qasim here on Tuesday night.

The president referred to the project pertaining to the beach and islands' development and said this would be a mega project of international standard, adding that for this the land would be reclaimed from the sea and “we hope that in the centre of this project there will be a building 1,947 feet high.

He said with development projects like these, Karachi would attain a higher stature in the world.

The president said a three-year elevated expressway project would be launched on Sharea Faisal, adding that there was a mass transit project from Sohrab Goth to Keamari and the elevated train service would also be initiated in five sectors.—-APP
