News:

Ground-breaking for the 21-storey IT Tower in Gulberg was held Saturday, which was attended by government officials, MPAs and local and foreign investors.

Urban Developers Chairman Mian Tahir Javed and Chief Executive Riaz Ahmed Chauhan had specially invited members of British parliament Chaudhry Mohammad Sarwar and Shahid Malik to attend the ceremony. Chaudhry Sarwar was the chief guest on the occasion. Speaking on the occasion, Punjab Information Technology Minister Abdul Aleem Khan said such projects were necessary to boost the construction industry. "These projects not only create new jobs but also attract foreign investment in the country," he added. Industrialist Ishtiaq Baig said high-rise buildings like IT Tower would bring about prosperity in the country.

I actually dont care too much for the design. However when the project is completed it should help in promoting the IT industry.

That is right! It is going to hurt Hafiz Center if the prices of electronics will be cheap. I hope they knock down that old eye sore!

Technically when we speak of an IT Tower, we are looking forwards to see use to "hi-tech engineering" in the design as well as use of hi-tech gadgets in the later use of the building. The building should involves use to the latest technology and be a solution to many of the problems occuring in the multi-storey buildings. Problems includes use of sensors like fire-detectors (although that is old one in the west yet still not practically used here), water spriklers, smart glass (one that does nt require external cleaning), light sensors that will control the curtains, solar panels to provide alternative enegy etc Yet here its juss a name given to a project nothing related to its name in terms of its design.

We all juss look at the design of building first of all and dont bother about its future impact on the surrounding. In a building like this, where there will be around 3000 or more people working (directly or indirectly), one should think about the situation at the junction of the Hali and Ghalib Road, the amount of vehicles coming out when the office time is over, and the traffic problems that will be generated then! The government has been been promoting the private sector in such construction activities yet the services and infrastructure that is been providing is certainly not capable of holding or handling these project in the near future. Multi-storey projects if not supported sufficiently with the infrastructure will infuture be creating alot of problems. Only people related to the field can forsee the future associated problems. The public in general should also think about it`!! Think about around a hundered multi-storey building on the Main Boulevard and its surrounding arteries and the impact of traffic!!!

I agree with you on that one, the place I am working right now is on Hali road, a few meters away from where this IT tower is being constructed, its already a nightmare driving specially in the afternoon as there are around 2 to 3 large schools in the same vicinity, Hali road is a single road and so is Ghalib road imagine the nightmare once this is completed, the road needs to be widened, I think we might need an underpass around this area too and more importantly a car park plaza.

Yes, a car park plaza is needed very much in that area! You have no idea how hard it is to find parking and it will get even worse once they build this building.

Therefore I say that the word "Development" should not be considered a progress in the forward direction. It can be like degrading of the existing space through unappropriate changes or development.

Development work seems to be going at a snails pace, not much machinery, in over one year all they have managed to do so far is dig up a hole.

It looks very colorful. I really like the blueish glass (or is it supposed to be the sky reflecting onto the building?).

Oh nice! Blue is such an awesome color, they need to use it more in architecture. Good thing I'm taking an architecture course next year.
