Rawalpindi: The Twin City



Rawalpindi (Urdu: راولپنڈی) is a city in the Potwar Plateau near Pakistan's capital city of Islamabad, in the province of Punjab. It is the military headquarters of the Pakistan Armed Forces and also served as the nation's capital while Islamabad was being constructed in the 1960s. The city is home to many industries and factories. Islamabad International Airport is actually in Rawalpindi, and it serves the city along with the capital. Rawalpindi is located in the Punjab province, 275 km (171 miles) to the north-west of Lahore. It is the administrative seat of the Rawalpindi District. The population of Rawalpindi is approximately 3,039,550.

You guys should change the title of this thread from "The Twin City" to "The Garrison City" as THAT'S Rawalpindi's IDENTITY!

What's with the harsh sounding reply??? Going to Pakistan, is out of the question for me and I didn't take any pics when I used to live there. Anyways I have been settled in London for the past many years and I love it! Already spent almost a 3rd of my life here! But that doesn't mean that you guys shouldn't change the thread title. As RWP's identity is of being a "Garrision City". Its been known as that since the time of the British, i.e. long before ISB even existed! So calling it a Garrison City is much more appropriate. Its also a much more attractive name! Even if you search on the net, about Pakistan's Garrison City, RWP comes up!

Ohh n I will change the name, but i dont see the reason somehow in terms of the design, ive visited many cities with a garrison, so I doesnt see any element in the urban design context that would deferentiate this garrison or any other garrison in our country. Technically garrisons should not be a part of the city.

Calling Karachi the City of lights defines it better....doesn't it?

Yes, you are right about Karachi! It does. About pics, I'll try and search for some, especially for the cities outside the big 3 (Isb, Lhr n Khi) when I get some free time.
